The Academy at Christ Reformed Church

Casual visitors to the Confessional Outhouse may not have noticed all of the helpful link widgets running down the right sidebar, below Posts and Comments. A lot of behind-the-scenes wrangling occurred to organize all of that information in a manner that is simultaneously meaningful, amusing, Outhouse-themed, and tasteful.

All that to say that I have just added to “Tempting Sounds” a treasure-trove of audio, from The Academy, a lecture program from the church pastored by Outhouse Saint Kim Riddlebarger. Although the offerings at The Academy audio page are a little disorganized, and sometimes hit-or-miss in terms of format availability (.mp3 vs .ram vs. streaming), you will find lectures by Riddlebarger on all kinds of topics, as well as by other Outhouse Saints (Horton, Clark — why hasn’t Danny Hyde been Outhouse-canonized yet?).

In particular, a tip of the hat goes to Heidelblog for leading me to the site (but a wag of my finger because Clark’s lecture on Olevanius is only available streaming, so I can’t pack it onto my .mp3 player!) via one particular lecture, Riddlebarger on B. B. Warfield, which has already inspired material for my own blog, as well as another post in the works for the Outhouse.

[Update: finger-wag half-retracted! Thanks to Ming Lu (below) for technical assistance: here is the direct link to Clark’s lecture; half a finger-wag remains for general disorganizednessulation. It would be a lot more compact to just have one bullet per lecture, with a separate link per format, like

Thanks for the link to the Academy Lectures. Can you provide a link to someplace where I can get a bunch of those 48 hour days?

  2. RubeRad says:

What you need, my friend, are some of those age-long days

  3. RubeRad says:

Your real problem is that you live too close to work. You should become a good American, and move so you have a half-hour commute, and consume your fair share of gasoline. Or instead of driving 5 minutes each way, take your bike back, and start riding half an hour each way, with headphones.

  4. Bruce S. says:

I already do listen while I am driving. It’s actually about 10 minutes per trip.

  5. Ming Lu says:

Streaming Links in the Academy are also MP3 based. Just download the m3u file and open it with a text editior. You will find the address of the mp3 file inside. If you are using WMP to listen to the lecture just use the “Save Media As” option to save the MP3 file after the file has fully been downloaded into your system. As far as I know all the lectures in the Academy have an MP3 file associated with it (including Clark’s lecture on Olevian).

  6. Rick says:

We still need a “Sites that Dazzle” category. Without it, “Tempting Sounds” doesn’t make much sense.

    Can anyone name that tune?

  7. RubeRad says:

Hey, thanks for the tip! For some reason I thought that streaming audio was more protected from download. For those that are interested, here is a direct link to the .mp3 of Dr. Clark’s lecture on Olevanius.

  8. RubeRad says:

Well, I installed CCEL in order to make the extra link category show up. I think it should be “Sites”, and unfortunately, there is no way I know of to order link categories other than alpha, so we can’t get “Sights that Dazzle” adjacent to “Tempting Sounds”

  9. RubeRad says:

    How’s that for a solution?

  10. Rick says:

Yeah, “Sites” not, “Sights”Play on words.

It’s OK- they don’t need to be adjacent.

**UPDATE – Rube is the man! He made it work.

How about “M.G. Kline Online” in The Sites that Dazzle?

  11. Rick says:

Nice because those are the actual lyrics.

  12. Rick says:

Now dance and clap your hands like a baby seal.

  13. RubeRad says:

On the internet, nobody realizes you’re not actually dancing and clapping your hands like a baby seal…

  14. Echo_ohcE says:

    Save the seals! Murderers! Fur-wearers!

    Oh, sorry, wrong site…
