Yeow, what’s up with “What’s the point”? There is one subjectivist appeal if I ever done heard one. I think St. Stellman has a phrase for this approach: “Jesus is better than beer.” But who ever said he was competing on sarx terms?

Sorry, folks, but our problem isn’t our sense of subjective fulfillment as inwardly discerned by sinners; it is still sin objectively pronounced by God.

Other than a few hundred years, what’s the big difference between “What’s the point?” and “What’s the chief end?”

  3. Zrim says:

The difference is between serving God and enjoying him forever as He defines it and meeting the felt needs of sinners as they define it; What’s the point?” begins with personal fulfillment, “chief end” begins with the law. The problem in “What’s the point” seems to be inward satisfaction, not sin. What’s the solution, namely the Gospel, have to do with personal fulfillment? I sense remnants of all that “ontologically better of for our faith, transcending one’s humanity, subdued properity gospel” stuff subsuming beneath the “What’s the point” model.

    It’s all in the post I linked…

At least there was no trace of any sinner’s prayers, etc. like the PCA and OPC web sites (yes, and the CRC). It gets points for that.
